Building on the Cornerstone

A Capital Campaign for a New Church Home

A Providential Opportunity:

St. Luke's University Health Network approached Cornerstone with a generous offer to purchase our current property — at a time when our growing congregation was already recognizing the need for more space.

After much prayer and thoughtful discussion, we believe this is a gracious provision and a meaningful step forward in the life of our church.

Cornerstone will continue worshiping in our current building for the next two years while construction is completed on our new church home at:
3717 Station Ave,
Center Valley, PA 18034

We are deeply grateful for what God has done in our current building. So many lives have been shaped here, and we are filled with anticipation for what lies ahead.

Designed for Ministry:

Our mission remains: “to be an equipping and worshipping community of believers devoted to moving people towards Christ as we  are compelled by grace to proclaim the gospel in word and deed in every aspect of our lives.”

The new building will help us carry out that mission through our four core values:

  1. Devoted to Worship: This new space will allow us to welcome more people from the local neighborhood and the wider Lehigh Valley  to experience authentic, reformed corporate and family worship. The larger sanctuary will enable us to gather as  one congregation in one service, with room for new people to join and worship with us. Above all, we pray that many more people will come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. Devoted to Grace: This new building will provide more room for the discipleship of children, youth, college students, young adults, and older adult members. Safe, well-equipped classrooms and flexible ministry spaces will help us teach and learn  together. We want people at every stage of life to understand more deeply what it means to belong to Christ and  to live in the light of his grace.

  3. Devoted to Community: Our current gathering spaces make it difficult to spend time together before and after worship or to bring larger groups together for meals and events. Appropriately sized spaces will give us more opportunities to build relationships, care for one another, and grow as a church family. As those relationships deepen, we hope members will discover and use their gifts in service to the body of Christ.

  4. Devoted to Mission: This new space will allow us to conceptualize and implement new ways to actively address the brokenness of our  community and minister accordingly in word and deed. For the first time, Cornerstone will be located in a  residential neighborhood, and we see this as an opportunity to be good neighbors, to be a resource to the local  community, and to reach that community to invite them to a relationship with Christ. As more people join us in  this mission, we will see God’s kingdom advance.

Finally, as the largest PCA church in our region, we are dreaming about becoming a resource church for the  Presbytery and the local community, creating opportunities to host larger events and activities such as Presbytery wide conferences, training activities and missional outreaches that our current building cannot accommodate.

This vision depends on more than a building. It depends on the prayers, service, and generosity of Cornerstone’s  members and regular attenders. Your participation will help shape what this next chapter of ministry can become.

What are we building?

Our current building is approximately 6,000 sq.ft. The plans for our new building are approximately 16,500 sq.ft.  This will allow us to:

  • Worship together in one service, with room for growth in a 400-seat sanctuary.

  • Better serve children and families with more and larger classrooms and flexible space for ministry.

  • Encourage fellowship with a roughly 1,500 sq.ft. gathering area for conversation, meals, and  congregational events.

  • Be a resource for our Presbytery and community by being able to host larger events.

The financial picture

We sold our current property to St. Luke’s for $2.2 million. The total cost of our new building, including the land  purchase is estimated at $4.7 million. Thus, the proceeds from the sale of our current property to St. Luke’s will  cover almost half of the new building costs. The capital campaign is designed to fund the balance — including  construction completion, furnishings, audio/visual systems, and a contingency reserve for the first years of  operation in the new facility. Through the initial quiet phase of the campaign, pledges totaling almost $1,000,000  of the $2,500,000 goal have already been made, leaving a remaining target of $1,500,000.

How to participate in the capital campaign:

We invite every Cornerstone family to prayerfully consider what God may be calling them to give over and above their regular generosity. This is an act of faith, a tangible declaration that what God is building here is worth investing in.

To make your pledge:

  • Pray. Ask God to guide your family’s giving. Discuss this together with your family for several weeks.

  • Complete your pledge card. Return it to the church office, place it in the offering or submit it online.

  • Honor your pledge as God enables. We understand circumstances change. Your pledge is a statement of intent, made in faith.
